Today we all had a great time at our annual holiday Luncheon. Parents did a fabulous job as always and threw a great, well deserved party for our teachers and staff. Thank you to everyone who attended the holiday luncheon - especially those who volunteered their time for set up and clean up. The food was amazing as usual and it was great social gathering for everyone.

SK French Immersion Applications
NEW & IMPORTANT: SK French Immersion Applications due DEC 5
Dear Parents and Friends,
In the past, TDSB Senior Kindergarten (SK) French Immersion information nights and the application process took place after the Christmas break. This year the TDSB decided to move the process to November-December to allow parents more time to sort out their family logistics and to allow more time to get staff in place for the following September.
SK French Immersion information nights are taking place from October 29-November 27, 2014. Details here.
Applications to start SK French Immersion in September 2015 will be accepted on-line from November 3-December 5, 2014 here .
This is NOT a first come, first served process. However, parents must apply by December 5, 2014 to be guaranteed a spot in September 2015. Siblings of those already in the program also have to do the on-line application. Late applicants are given a spot only if there is extra space. Parents who are not on-line can ask for assistance at their home school office or from the FSL department.
Very Important: the first step is for the parent to apply on-line. There is an immediate response from the TDSB saying the application has been received. In the weeks following the December 5 deadline, parents receive another email from the TDSB with details about the placement. In the second step, parents must respond to the placement email to secure the spot. Parents should check their email inboxes, including junk email, frequently during this time.
Please share this information with friends, neighbours and family.

WELCOME BACK
Welcome Back Rippleton Families
We have another exciting year ahead of us. So much is planned from extra curricular enrichment for our children during their school day, to social and fundraising events throughout the year.
The RAPT Beginning of the Year package was sent home on the first day of school (Kindergarten classes will receive it on Friday). Enclosed in the package, you will find forms for the Direct Donation Drive, Pizza and Sub lunch, Spirit Wear T-shirt forms, Nomination form for the School Council, Volunteer contact info, and the Direct Donation Drive form.
During the first week of every year, RAPT launches the Direct Donation Drive which fundraisers the majority of the money for the academic year. As described in the form, this monetary donation is used to enrich our children's academic, cultural and physical environment. Without the Direct Donation Drive, much of what we take for granted at our wonderful school would not be possible. Please take the time to read the Direct Donation Letter and fill out the for; and please donate generously with your time and money. All the money donated now and throughout the year is spent enriching our School. All the time donated now and throughout the year is quality time filled with special memories.
Pizza lunch has been offered to parents for several years now, and this year we are happy to announce that we have increased the frequency to two Pizza Lunches per month. We also added a once a month option of Sub Lunch from Quiznos. These lunches are yummy for the students, easy for the parents, and raise money for the school!
During the past year, there were many requests for Rippleton Spirit Wear, especially for the many new kindergarten students. In response, we have enclosed forms for the Rippleton T-shirts in both child and adult sizes. This is a school spirit service and only pre-purchased items will be ordered from the supplier, whom we are proud to say is a Rippleton parent!
Currently, the RAPT committee is comprised of the seven parents that were elected last year. On September 23rd, 2014, the new council will be elected. To nominate yourself, or to nominate any parent or guardian at Rippleton, please fill in the Nomination Form and send it to the school's office. We strongly urge you to attend the meeting on Sept 23rd, to vote and to learn about the Rippleton Parent Council activities. Babysitting will be available for school aged children.
The How You Can Help form lists all the social and fundraising events planned for this year, while the Class Parent Representative form explains how you can help your child's teacher. Please fill in your contact information if there is the slightest possibility you could help and be involved this year.
We Look forward to your involvement.

Why Donate?
As you drop off your child in the morning, look around the green field and take pride in your donation.
When you walk through the hallways at Rippleton School, take note of all the things your donations and dedication has provided for the students: Wifi access for staff and students, computer lab equipment, smart boards inside the classrooms, display boxes...
If you volunteer for Scientists in School or Artists in school, watch as the money you donated for these professionals allow your child to learn and experiment as they have fun.
And if you happen to to be at school when Artists are performing in the gym, take the time to watch and see how your money is spent to enrich your child's learning and imagination.
If we want our children to have additional learning opportunities like Scientists in School, Artistic performances, Artists in School, Technology... then we need to donate time and time again.
RAPT will continuously organize events to raise money to enrich our children's learning opportunities.
Your next opportunity to provide for your child is the Cookbook.
Enter one or more recipes. If we reach 80 recipes, then we can print the Cookbook. When we sell copies, the school makes money.
Please take the time to enter a recipe. The deadline has been extended to March 10.

You can enter as many recipes as you would like, you can write your name as the author, you can write your child's name or you can even leave it blank!
Perhaps your children can remind you of a recipe they helped you make.
Remember, the cookbook will not go to print unless we have 80 recipes or more!
Thank you Rippleton families.

Dance-a-Thon Fun
Last week, on Friday February 14th, 2014, the Dance-a-Thon fundraising event was held at our school. Students, teachers, staff and several parents spent much of their day dancing!
There was a lot to be grateful for: the smiles on the students' faces, the positive remarks from many staff members, and the opportunity to witness dancing talents among our students and staff!
We at Rippleton are especially fortunate and grateful for all the supportive parents we have. So much time and effort went into making this day a success; we only hope that the volunteer parents had some dancing fun during their long shifts of morning, lunch and afternoon duty.

Three Things You Missed at the Last RAPT Meeting
On Tuesday January 14, 2014, the first RAPT meeting of 2014 was held at the library. Our Principal, Susan, two teachers, Pela, the daycare representative, RAPT members and a few parents joined the meeting.
We had snacks, shared ideas and reported on various events and information.
If you did not join us, you missed an hour of information and planning for Rippleton school!
Here are three things you missed:
1. Generously provided by the Rippleton Roadsters Daycare, cameras and buzzers will be installed on the two back entrances of the school: the parking lot doors and the playground doors.
2. Due to the increased number of students and the increased number of illegal parking in the school's parking lot, it was decided that a parking traffic committee is required to ease the flow and ensure the safety of our children. The committee will be meeting soon to plan the first step towards a safer and more organized drop-off and pick-uptime.
3. Phase two of the Master Plan for the school's grounds is in progress. Nine new trees were installed recently in the school's field; work on the walking trail and sprint trail and installation of two tri-basketball hoops for the younger grades, and one additional basketball hoop is expected to be completed in the near future.
We hope you will join us at the next RAPT meeting on Feb. 19th. You will have a chance to chat with parents, ask questions and learn more about Rippleton.
