RAPT Meeting Minutes for March 28

1. RAPT Welcome

2. Principal Update

a) Teacher Wish Lists
Teachers have finished their wish list of items from RAPT funds and the purchases are just being finalized. Items that were purchased with RAPT funds will be indicated to the parent community via newsletter or RAPT communication.

b) Staffing & Enrollment
Staff is currently working on a staffing allocation model for next year based on a projection of 317 students. There will not be a decrease in staffing numbers. Allocation models must go to the Board this week.

Kindergarten registration is complete including optional attendance students. Rippleton was able to accept optional attendance applications for kindergarten for students that are in the daycare program but has had to restrict it to those students only.


c) Community Events
Junior High School Councils are sponsoring a presentation by Dr. Karen Gordon at York Mills CI at 7pm, April 28 in Titan Hall

‘Community Coffee with Gerri Gershon’ is scheduled for April 4 at Artisano from 9:15-11am

There will be a Ward Forum Meeting at 7pm on Apr 27.

There will be a Budget Breakfast with Kathleen Wynne, MPP on March 30 at 7:30am at Christ Church Deer Park

d) Grade 6
There will be a Grade 6 Orientation of Windfields scheduled in April and one for St. Andrews in May.

Grade 6 Graduation photos are scheduled for April 29

Grade 5 and 6 students are being offered leadership opportunities within the school as lunch helpers and now as student ambassadors during recess to assist students, specifically as additional monitoring for bathroom breaks

e) School Events
Earth Day was celebrated in the school last Friday with the lights being turned off for one hour.

The Board has designated Tuesday, April 28 as Toonie Tuesday in support of the tragedy in Japan

f) Extra-Curricular Opportunities
Currently running opportunities include: Gr 3 Activity Club, Coed Volleyball, Art Club, and Choral Project

Mad Science will run a Chess program beginning in April

Track and Field will begin in May with the Meet Scheduled for May 25

g) Other

‘See Hear’ is in the school this week for those children who were registered

Rippleton may be participating in a Sick Kids study regarding walking to school and the issues with safety, mobility and childhood obesity




3. Budget / Treasurer Report

Total Revenue after operating expenses is approximately $24,000. RAPT expenditures have included: $10,000 on teacher wish lists, $8000 on the Scientist in the School Program, $500 for Grade 6 Graduation and sponsoring two cultural shows for the students. We currently have $3000 of available cash.

$13,000 has been set aside for Master Plan work. Discussion occurred regarding reconvening the Design Committee to assess where the funds could be put to use on the project.



4. Fundraising Meeting

RAPT needs to develop a Fundraising Model and Calendar for the 2011-2012 school year. All interested parties should attend the meeting on Apr 13 at 1pm with the goal of producing 3 models for approval at the April RAPT Meeting.



5. Book Fair Open House

Discussion occurred regarding the logistics of holding this event in conjunction with the BBQ. It was determined that the BBQ would move ahead this year however, new volunteers will be needed to make this event run smoothly.

The BBQ and Open House / Book Fair will occur on Thursday, May 5th.



6. Other Business

Parent Engagement Grant

RAPT has been allotted $500 by the School Board as Parent Engagement funds. We have discussed installation a notice board at the playground entrance to improve communication with parents. The Board would be weather resistant, lockable, and shatter resistant. $200 more from RAPT funds would be required for this project.

RAPT to provide $200 to add to the Parent Engagement Grant of $500 to supply and install an outdoor notice Board.
