Message from the Principal

Gas Smell at Rippleton

Today during the lunch hour, there was a strong smell of natural gas outside in the playground. To be safe, we called the Fire Department to investigate, who responded around 12:10. The smell had dissipated, but was still evident and came in gusts. We brought all the students into the school from their lunch recess, around 12:15 while they investigated. Enbridge was called and the Fire Chief and crew checked our valves and surrounding area.

The Chief then located the source of the smell, which was a punctured gas line due to construction, on Cicada Ave, one and a half blocks away from the school. The Fire Chief gave us the all clear to resume our day as usual, including having the children outside as the gas is not toxic, just smelly, and there was no worry of combustion. They told us that the leak would be capped within a half hour to an hour, and that there was no danger to Rippleton.

If you have any other questions, please give me a call.
Appreciatively,
Susan
